Launching Halumish: The First Newsletter on Somali Tech

Why Somali tech and education though? Is a question I kept asking myself while putting Halumish together, and the answer is simple: I owe it to Somalia.

This country, despite its challenges and late arrival to the global tech scene, has given me everything I know. Writing about its tech and education sectors is my way of saying thank you to the place that shaped me.

I also owe it to Somalis everywhere. There are a great number of people creating, innovating, and educating tirelessly to make this country better. I want to add my small cup to their ocean to appreciate them, encourage their efforts, tell their stories, and remind them that their work matters.

Another reason I’m doing Halumish is that I love words. I love putting them together, and I love reading the ones that have been put together by my fellow humans. (I see you, AI.) There’s something that makes me pause when I encounter writing done well.

In Halumish, you’ll discover the founders building solutions for local challenges, the educators transforming classrooms across the country, and the quiet efforts that rarely make international headlines.

So, if reading what someone on the other side of the world, someone you might never meet in person, wrote about Somalia’s emerging tech landscape and educational transformation sounds like something you’d enjoy, I’d be honored to have you on the receiving list.

Once every other week, I will send you stories, insights, and moments worth knowing about Somali tech and education, delivered straight to your inbox.
